Lenten Message about Suffering for God

I have been strangely silent during this Lenten season. While I am grateful for Jesus giving up his life for us, and understand why, I reflect upon the hardness of hearts required to put an innocent to death. It has not stopped since that awful and wonderful day. Innocent are hurt everyday and the guilty set free. You do not have to look further than politics to see that. It happens in everyday life too. Christ promised us it would be so. Not because he desires it, but man's nature does. People who cannot accept that we Christians believe what we do, test us, even to death. They think that if they make it so miserable for us we will give up our beliefs, and concede to their wishes. Then they are shocked we do not, and some choose God. It is too late for the believer, but that is the cost. While the unbeliever thinks they punish us, they actually are serving God by testing us and purifying our faith. Satan and his demons serve God as well by driving us toward faith, when they test us. That is why they try so hard to tempt from the background, rather than direct action. To show themselves as they really are would drive us to God.
